The Conseil scolaire de district catholic Centre-Sud faces the challenge of retaining French-speaking staff and students in primarily English-speaking areas.
The orientation guide I designed is geared towards helping new, young staff, who are often from out-of-province, acclimatize to their new surroundings. It offers practical advice on getting started (housing, OHIP, insurance and taxes) and includes categorized lists of organizations and resources that offer French-language services, all organized by specific region.
Another strategy the CSDCCS employs, in this case to retain students who may gravitate towards English-speaking high schools, is to encourage parental involvement in student life.
The guide features custom colour-coded patterns and tabs to indicate specific regions within the school board.
The booklet features fun, approachable typography and approachable commissioned illustrations. Other materials produced for this campaign included a website, a PowerPoint presentation and fridge magnets.
